Chronic Kidney Disease (IGA)
IGA Nephropathy (CKD) and diet
Have you been diagnosed with chronic kidney disease (ckd)? It is a very scary diagnoses but you are not alone! There are millions of people with this disease that are living somewhat normal lives. I've found that the biggest issue for me was changing my diet. You have to change the way you eat if you want to keep this disease from progressing. Doctors will tell you to eat a low protein diet and don't eat bananas, ok that sounds easy enough, I can do that. Well upon further research you'll find out that that is not enough. You need to stop eating processed foods, you have to watch how much salt you eat, you have to watch how much potassium and phosphorus you consume also. Your doctor will probably prescribe blood pressure medication which will keep your bp low and will help stop your protein leak in your kidneys. My doctor also recommended taking fish oil and vitamin D3.
Ok so long story short I have been trying to find a diet that will stop my kidneys from leaking protein so the doctor does not try to put me on harsh drugs like prednisone (bad stuff!!) again. I decided to try to cut out all grains one month before my next doctor appointment to see if my lab work looked better. Low and behold my kidneys no longer leak protein!! OMG! It worked! I basically follow the paleo diet but without the beef and pork. Its a difficult diet to follow but it works for me. I don't drink alcohol or smoke cigarettes, I try to eat organic fruits and vegetables as much as possible. I take a B complex supplement along with a calcium chew, vit D and 6 grams of fish oil everyday along with my 20mg of lisinipril (BP meds) oh and iron. I will always recommends talking to your doctor about your diet needs but for the record I did not discuss this with my doctor in advance. He was very excited about my results and told me to keep doing what ever it was I was doing! If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask me, I'll respond as quickly as possible,
